The fabric has been starched so it has a crispness to the pleats and carefully pattern matched gingham checks. The fabric cover sits snugly over the included inner lampshade (see photo 4)and is not permanently attached. The shade has a reversible gimbal so it can be used as either a table lampshade or ceiling
